Mod version
Written for WD Core 2.1.0. If the server runs a different version, some of this may have changed.
Turn the battle down without losing your squad. Ear plugs in WD Core lower sound by kind, not all at once. You can quiet the gunfire and still hear every word on voice chat.
You do not install anything yourself. WD Core downloads with the mods that need it, and the server's mod list on the Servers page shows it. See Our Mods for what else it does.
Put them in
| Device | Key |
|---|---|
| Keyboard | End |
| Controller | Hold D-pad Right and press X (Square on PlayStation) |
Each press steps OFF, PLUG 1, PLUG 2, then back to OFF. A hint on screen shows which one is in.
- PLUG 1: game sound at half.
- PLUG 2: game sound at 20%, dialog at 70%, music at 50%.
Voice chat stays at full in both.
Tune them
- Press ' to open TALON and go to the EAR PLUGS tab.
- Set ACTIVE to the plug you want to change.
- Step its levels with Left and Right, 10% at a time.
You hear each change at once. It saves by itself.
| Row | What it covers |
|---|---|
| ACTIVE | Which plug is in: OFF, PLUG 1 or PLUG 2. |
| GAME SFX | Every game sound: weapons, explosions, vehicles, aircraft, footsteps, weather. |
| VOICE CHAT | Other players on voice and radio. |
| DIALOG | Character voices and shouts. |
| MUSIC | Music. |
| UI | Menu sounds. |
| CYCLE KEY | Where to change the key. |
Levels go from 0 to 100% in steps of 10. They sit on top of your normal Audio settings, so 50% is half of what you usually hear. With ACTIVE on OFF the levels show 100%, greyed out.
Starting levels
| Plug | GAME SFX | VOICE CHAT | DIALOG | MUSIC | UI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLUG 1 | 50% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
| PLUG 2 | 20% | 100% | 70% | 50% | 100% |
Change the key
Go to Settings, Controls, WD Core, Cycle ear plugs. Keyboard and controller each have their own key there.
Good to know
- Every game starts with ear plugs OFF.
- Only you hear the difference. Nothing is sent to the server.
- The game still mutes sound on the loading screen, in the deploy menu and in cutscenes. Your plug comes back within a second after.
- Guns, explosions and vehicles share one level, GAME SFX. The game sends them all through one sound group, and a mod could only split it by replacing game files. WD Core does not do that.
