Mod version
Written for WD TacWedge 1.0.1. If the server runs a different version, some of this may have changed.
Holding a house with four people when it has five doors is a bad time. Somebody always walks in through the kitchen. WD TacWedge is our answer: a rubber door wedge you carry in your pocket, jam under a door, and pick back up when you move on. By the end of this guide you will know how to get one, jam a door, take it back, and break through a door the enemy has jammed.
You do not install anything yourself. When a server runs WD TacWedge, the game downloads it with the other mods, and the server's mod list on the Servers page shows it.
Getting a wedge
- Open any arsenal, whatever side you are on, and look under Equipment, next to the compass and the flashlight. It is called Door Wedge.
- On Conflict it costs 5 supplies.
- It weighs 0.05 kg, lighter than a compass. Take one. Take two.
A Game Master can also hand them out by spawning the item.
Jamming a door
- Walk up to the door, closed or open, on the side you want to hold.
- Look at the handle, where you normally open it. Next to Open or Close you get Jam Door.
- Hold F (or your interact button) for about a second and a half.
- The wedge leaves your inventory, you hear it scrape and thud into place, and you see a yellow wedge on the floor by the door.
From now on the door stays exactly where it is. Nobody can open or close it, not you, not your squad, not the enemy, and not the AI. If you jammed it open, it stays open.
You cannot jam a door while it is still swinging. Let it finish moving first.
Picking it back up
When you move on, take your wedge with you. From your side of the door you can do either of these:
- Look at the door handle and hold F on Pull Wedge, or
- Look down at the yellow wedge on the floor and hold F on Pick Up Wedge.
Either way it goes back in your inventory and the door works normally again. If your pockets are full, it drops at your feet instead.
You can only pull a wedge from the side it was jammed on. Nobody reaches under the door from outside.
Getting through a jammed door
On the other side of a jammed door you get Kick Door instead. You have three ways in:
- Kick it. Hold F on Kick Door. It shows how many kicks you are on, like Kick Door (1/3). Every kick is a heavy thump on the door and a grunt from whoever is kicking, and everyone nearby hears both, so the people inside know you are coming. On the third kick the door splinters, the wedge pops loose and lands on the floor, and the door swings open.
- Shoot it. The wedge can be broken. Rounds that go through the door and hit it break it, and the door works again.
- Blow it. A charge or a grenade at the door breaks the wedge too.
A wedge that is kicked loose can be picked up off the floor by anyone, so go ahead and take theirs.
Tips
- Funnel them. Jam the back doors and leave one way in. Put your guns on that one.
- Listen for the kicks. A thump and a grunt at a door means someone is coming through. You have until the third one. Be ready on that door.
- One per person is plenty. At 0.05 kg there is no reason not to carry one.
- Pick it up when you leave. A wedge left behind locks that door for the next squad, which might be us.
- Wedges are not walls. They stop a door, not a bullet. Stay out of the doorway's line of fire.
Things to know
- AI cannot open a jammed door and does not kick it. It just waits outside.
- Doors from other mods, and a few odd vanilla doors, may not show Jam Door. Most houses, sheds and barns do.
- Losing a wedge is fine. The arsenal has more.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| No Jam Door at a door | You have no wedge, or the door is already jammed. Check your inventory. |
| Door is moving | The door is still swinging. Wait for it to stop. |
| Jammed when you try to open a door | Someone wedged it. If you are on the wedge side, pull it. If not, kick it. |
| Kick Door shows but you are inside | You are on the wrong side of the door. The wedge is on the other side. |
| Pulled the wedge and it is not in your inventory | Your pockets were full. It is on the floor at your feet. |
