This page is about playing a video game. It is not medical, tactical, or safety advice for real life, and nothing here should be used as such.
In one line: the team leader is a fighting leader. You lead three people from the front, by doing first what you want them to do.
What you do
- Lead the team in fire and movement.
- Control where the team moves, how fast it shoots, and what it shoots at.
- Keep your team's piece of ground secure.
- Know every weapon and every job in the team, and every squad drill.
- Account for your people and their kit. Manage the team's ammunition and supplies.
- Help the squad leader with whatever is needed.
What good looks like
- The team copies what you do without being told: your example is the order.
- The squad leader gets short, accurate reports from you, quickly.
- You act on your own judgment inside the plan. You do not wait to be told each step.
- You understand the mission two levels up: squad and platoon.
- You are ready to take over the squad.
What you carry
Kit
A rifle and a radio. Sometimes the team's grenade launcher, when the team is a person short.
Who you work with
You answer to your squad leader and lead a rifleman, a grenadier, and an automatic rifleman. Next step up: squad leader.
By the book
From ATP 3-21.8, paragraphs 1-27 and 1-28. The manual holds the team leader responsible for all the team does or fails to do.
